    Burke’s water bottle fetches $286,750 in Australia

    A leather water bottle belonging to explorer Robert O’Hara Burke has fetched more than a quarter of a million dollars at auction in Melbourne.The $286,750 sale price was more than three times what the artefact was expected to fetch.Sotheby’s had originally estimated the water bottle would sell for between $60,000 and $80,000.

    London-based auction house Bonhams announced Monday that it would hold its first-ever sale entirely devoted to Russian art.
    This sale begins a new Russian season on Britain’s auctioneering scene, with Sotheby’s, Christie’s and Bloomsberry’s following suit later this month and in early December.
